Headaches and migraine: being heard matters

When headaches interrupt work, family plans or time with friends, the impact goes beyond the pain itself. You may also feel anxious about when the next episode will happen.

We will listen to your experience, including any neck discomfort, and ask about your headache pattern and existing medical care. Headaches have different causes, so understanding the symptoms comes before deciding whether we can help.

What helps us understand your headaches

  • When they started and how often they happen
  • How they affect work, sleep and everyday plans
  • Any neck pain or other symptoms alongside them
  • Whether the pattern is new or has changed
  • Any diagnosis, medicines or treatment you already have

What your visit involves

Osteopathic assessment can explore associated neck and muscle symptoms. We will be clear about the limits of our care and whether you should see your GP for diagnosis or migraine management.

We will ask when your headaches started, how often they occur and whether the pattern has changed. Bring details of any medicines and anything you have noticed about sleep, activity or other possible triggers.

If care for associated neck discomfort is appropriate, we will explain the options and agree a plan with you. Osteopathy is not a cure for migraine and should not replace medical treatment. NHS migraine information explains established treatment options.

Your priorities matter: let us know whether you are most concerned about neck discomfort, understanding your symptoms or finding the right next step.
A simple headache diary may help your conversation with your GP. Record the timing, symptoms and medicines used, without feeling you have to find a single trigger.

Call 0161 440 0298 if you are unsure whether an appointment is appropriate. Call 999 for a sudden, extremely painful headache, or a headache with new weakness, confusion or difficulty speaking.
