What do Osteopaths treat?

What do Osteopaths treat?

One of the most popular questions that Osteopaths get asked is, “What do Osteopaths treat?”

I thought a good way to answer this would be to give an overview of some of the different things that people have come to see us in clinic for over the last week!

Here are a few cases that we have been helping people with:
1: Upper Back and Neck Stiffness. You don’t need to be in acute pain to see an Osteopath, lots of people come for a ‘maintenance’ session, working on general mobility and relaxing tight muscles. Especially over the last year with many of us working from home and generally moving much less, keeping on top of your mobility is so important!
2: Headaches. Osteopaths can treat headaches that result from neck tightness. In this case doing lots of cycling leaning forward over the bike and looking up to watch a spin class seemed to have put extra pressure on the neck which was causing some headaches. We worked on loosening the muscles though the top of the neck and shoulders as well as upper back mobility to help relieve symptoms. Some tips on positioning on the bike were also useful!
3. Planter fasciitis. This is an inflammation of the planter fascia, whichis a band of tissue on the sole of your foot. In this case doing lots of exercise classes on a hard floor at home without shoes resulted in this area becoming inflamed. Treatment to the foot, ankle and leg muscles helped settle the symptoms alongside some exercises at home, wearing supportive trainers and some anti inflammatory advice!

These are just a few examples of the different types of issues that we help people with. It is a lovely part of the job to work on such a variety of cases and no one day is the same!
